In this video we look at how to defend against kicks. This is an important element of self-defense that needs to be addressed.
There are many different opinions on how to defend against kicks in the martial arts community. Some think that it’s best to grab the leg of your opponent to catch him off guard, while others say it’s preferable to step away to avoid getting hit.
Some other martial arts systems, mention that it’s best to block the incoming kicks with the shins.
We personally prefer to step back to avoid the kick and then come back in quickly with strikes against your attacker to incapacitate him.
An alternate option is to roll with the kick, by absorbing it with the back of your upper leg. You can also absorb it with your body and try to catch the leg if it’s a high kick.
If you see the kick coming, you can intercept it by throwing one of your own kicks into your opponent’s leg to block it and stop him from kicking you.
You can watch the clip to see a detailed demonstration on how to defend against kicks.
